INVENTORY RECOVERY GUIDE

Abandoned freight in Miami: recover value and reclaim warehouse space

Unclaimed cargo and slow-moving inventory tie up warehouse space, cash and staff time. For freight forwarders, warehouses, 3PLs, importers and distributors in Miami, Doral, Medley, Hialeah and Broward, the practical question is which authorized recovery route fits the goods and the deadline.

Start with the cargo facts

Gather the manifest or SKU list, quantities, packaging, product and label photos, condition, location and removal deadline. Include model numbers for equipment and parts, and expiration dates for dated goods. Before arranging a sale or removal, confirm the party authorizing disposition and the required documentation. Unclaimed freight should not be treated as automatically available for sale.

Compare the available recovery routes

Direct purchase may suit a seller seeking one lot transaction. Resale and buyer matching may suit identifiable merchandise with useful specifications. Auction consignment may be an option when competitive bidding fits the lot and timeline. Unsellable goods may require disposal coordination. Product condition, authorization, demand and handling requirements determine the route; a sale or recovery amount cannot be assumed.

Measure the cost of keeping the inventory

Storage is only one cost. Occupied pallet positions can prevent you from accepting paying inventory. Repeated handling takes staff time. Obsolescence, expiration, deterioration and changing buyer demand can reduce recoverable value. Insurance, security and eventual disposal can add expense. Count only costs that apply to your lot, and avoid counting the same cost twice.

A simple holding-cost example

Suppose a lot occupies 10 pallet positions at an avoidable cost of $20 per position each month, plus $100 in extra monthly handling. That is $300 per month, or $1,800 over six months, before any decline in inventory value. These figures are illustrative, not MicMac pricing or a valuation. Fixed rent may continue after removal; freed space creates value when it reduces expense or supports other business.

Compare net proceeds, not just the offer

Start with the proposed recovery amount, subtract agreed pickup, handling, selling and disposal costs, then compare that net amount with the realistic cost and value of waiting. Include timing and payment terms. Our warehouse space calculator can help organize your own assumptions; its output is an estimate, not a guaranteed return.

Prepare a review for your South Florida lot

Send your company name, contact details, pickup city, cargo description, quantities, condition, deadline and price expectations. MicMac reviews abandoned and refused freight, surplus inventory, commodity lots, equipment and parts, and cleanout or disposal requirements individually. Photos and documents may be requested after the initial inquiry. Scope, payment, pickup responsibilities and required records should be agreed before goods move.
